Chicago is a huge city, and there is always something going on, something I haven't seen, or something I haven't done yet. However, there is still a cohesive community feeling to this place, mostly because of the fervent adoration Chicagoans have for their sports teams (or deep dish pizza). I'm from the South, where football is a religion and a Saturday night in Tiger Stadium is a spiritual experience, so I get it, and embrace it.
And what an exciting time to be living in Chicago when it's been 102 years since both the White Sox and Cubs are in the playoffs. (If you're wondering whether or not I've picked which team I like better, I haven't. I like them both and can't decide).
One of my favorite places is Gamekeeper's in Lincoln Park, which is the home of the LSU Alumni Association's Chicago Chapter (LSUChicageaux, try pronouncing that if you're not from Louisiana). I've met fellow LSU Alumni/fans on top of always having a place to watch the games with the Tiger faithful. (Photo: Joanna and Chris at Gamekeeper's.)
(I haven't watched any Saints games since most of them aren't televised in the Midwest, but now I can FINALLY watch a Saints game! Monday Night Football is airing the Saints v. Vikings game next week).
The best part about being in this city though, is the people. Most people I meet tell me, "Welcome to Chicago!" and it's with that come-sit-and-have-a-drink-with-me genuine sentiment. That Midwestern friendliness makes me feel a little bit more at home, and a little bit more like part of the fabric of this community.
There's so much more to say about this place, but for now, here's the man that takes up most of my time, Ben.
